In July 2024, many computers running Windows experienced a blue screen of death stop error disrupting services across corporate, banking, government, aviation and education services globally.[1] The error caused Windows machines to crash and fail to boot. The cause of the problem was related to an update to the CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor.[2] Technicians initially worked around the problem by booting into Windows safe mode and renaming the CrowdStrike directory in the System32\drivers folder, a time-consuming and labour intensive process.
